The last term flew by and was a lot of fun! We explored science more this term, as I wanted to get the kids excited and interested in science at a young age and show them that it can be really fun. One of my favorite things we did was milk painting. It's really cool and my kids were obsessed with it! Basically you pour milk into a tray, put some drops of food coloring in it, then take a q-tip that has been dipped in dish detergent and dip the q-tip in the food coloring, it then bursts with color and you can swirl them all together to make beautiful rivers of color. One of my girls said, "Wow! It's magic!"
While learning the letter V we decided to make our own volcano, so we could simultaneously doing a fun science activity. We used playdough to create the volcano then used a combination of vinegar and baking soda so we could see our volcano erupt. My kids became obsessed with volcanoes! I had a number of parents come in and say it's all their kids were talking about at home. One boy insisted his mom find a youtube video of a volcano erupting so he could tell her about it. I overheard another one of my boys talking to his friends about volcanoes erupting and the hot "vala" that comes out. I looked at him and said "LAVA, buddy, LAVA". I was so impressed that he remembered the word eruption but it was so cute that he kept calling lava vala. Another boy was constantly talking about our "cano", we kept telling him "VOLcano, buddy, VOLcano".
We also had a theme of "Animal Fun" one month and learned about jungle animals, domestic pets and farm animals. We had a petting zoo come in one day which was awesome. Most of my kids loved it. A couple completely freaked out, screaming hysterically, so we took those few back to the class immediately. A couple others were a little aggressive in petting the animals, a little too excited to give them affection. But overall it went really well and was a very cool experience!
During Arabic class our teacher asked the kids "Where do we get milk from? Does anyone know?" Obviously she was looking for cow. One of my girls put her arm up in the air quickly, very excited that she knew the answer, and yelled out "the nanny!" hahahah. The Arabic teacher just said, "That's so Dubai."
